about

What do a Democrat and a Republican have in common? They both love living in Bedford.

Welcome to bedford’s best, a website comprised of a selection of Bedford’s best people, places, and organizations. This site was created by Jessica Leibowitz in Spring 2005. Numerous people, places and organizations were invited to be featured on the site; approximately 75% of those contacted were able to respond within the allotted time period, and it is hoped that additional members will continue to enroll. Please feel free to suggest additions to the site at jessicaleibowitz@gmail.com.

a note from the creator
As someone who was born and raised in Bedford, it was very important to me to find my own way of giving back to the place that gave so much to me. Bedford, and its family-oriented community, has an abundance of wonderful traditions that helped add sparkle to my childhood, including the Memorial Day bike decorating & wreath blessing, the Fireman’s Parade, the Halloween parade, trick-or-treating, the Moving Up Day ceremony at BVES, and summers at the town pool. There is such a small-town feeling present in Bedford, even though the population has climbed steadily as more people find out about our secret. An encounter at the Post Office or Library can offer welcome news of a neighbor or friend that one hasn’t seen in a while. School sports and activities, religious affiliations, and, of course, a beautiful setting also help to weave a fabric of tightly knit community relations that are cherished by friends and neighbors. I thought that by highlighting Bedford’s best people, places, and organizations, I could help spread the well-earned Bedford pride.

It has been quite a new and challenging experience for me to create this website. My only previous experiences with anything remotely similar to this have been creating my high school yearbook. I entered a whole new world filled with combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols that gave me a headache. My complexion has achieved a pasty sheen from the glow of the computer screen at which I have spent so much time in front of. I have had a love-hate relationship with the computer, one minute admiring my handiwork, the next freaking out over such awkward phrases as “has encountered a fatal exception,” and evil phrases such as “will now terminate.” I stalled on repairing a corrupt operating system until I finished this site, fearing the early death of my computer. I grew too familiar with the clichéd expression, “Everything that can go wrong will go wrong.” And in the end, it was all worth it. Throughout the past month, I have learned so much about websites, and my appreciation for the work that goes into creating and designing them has increased 300%. I am very happy with the way bedford’s best has turned out, and I am very proud of my independent struggle to get to the finish line. I also ended up meeting many of bedford’s best through phone calls, photo sessions (I took approximately 50% of all photographs), and emails, and I learned more about Bedford than I thought possible throughout the process.

Thank you for appreciating Bedford,
Jessica Leibowitz
