bio
Susan Wong Ostrofsky didn't set out to be an administrator; she was very happy as a classroom teacher. But she was encouraged to pursue an administrator's certificate, discovered she liked it -- and this year was selected as principal of Mount Kisco Elementary School.

Mrs. Ostrofsky, who played school when she was young and always knew she wanted to be a teacher, started her career teaching in Omaha, Nebraska, and New York City before going to Dobbs Ferry, where she taught grades two and five. She came to Bedford in 1994 as an elementary consulting teacher at Bedford Village, and later worked as a district consultant. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver and a master's in reading from Long Island University, Dobbs Ferry campus.

Her administrative route began at Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) where she enrolled in its Future School Administrators Academy, a partnership with Columbia University's Teachers College to recruit and train administrators. She received her administrative certificate in 2003.

The new principal lives in Yorktown Heights with her husband, Phil, an information technology manager for a New York City financial firm, and her two children, William, 3, and Miki, 7.
